About us
Saving wildlife is not what we do, it's who we are.
Wild Zine Workshops
Attend a ‘Wild Zine’ Workshop and create a Zine inspired by Zoos Victoria’s 27 Fighting Extinction Species.

In this exclusive experience, our knowledgeable keepers will guide you through the kangaroos’ exhibit while you make friends with this famous Australian animal.
Each experience will be unique, allowing our keepers to let the individual animals shine and give them the choice to control how they participate.
The behind the scene is a brief experience that lasts a couple of minutes with each visitor booked, however please plan up to 15 minutes to meet your host and keeper, and hear the safety briefing.
Zoo entry not included. Be sure to also book your entry tickets for the same date as your behind the scenes.

Their current wild range is restricted to two locations with streamside swamp forest in the Yarra Valley, east of Melbourne. The birds have distinctive yellow, black and olive body feathers, and a crown of yellow feathers on their head which resembles a helmet (hence their name!).

Teachers and students are invited to join free online 30-minute workshops throughout the year. These programs support the VELYDF and Victorian Curriculum and are available to all schools and early childhood services. To support the workshop each program comes with a free digital teaching resource, which includes lesson plans and classroom activities.
While not a tour of the zoo, these workshops give you direct access to a Zoo Teacher and unique content.
Each workshop is hosted on Microsoft Teams Webinars. You will not need a webcam or microphone, you can type your questions into the chat.

Connect
Use the activities in the Teaching Guide (below) to spark student’s curiosity before their zoo visit and to conduct and practice Community of Inquiry.
Connect and Understand
Explore the specifically designed case studies and develop students’ ability to contribute to a philosophical Community of Inquiry. It will challenge them to develop and refine their understanding of the contested meaning of concepts for their relevant level of the Victorian Curriculum.
You will focus on real Melbourne Zoo examples. The Teaching Guide and Workbook will provide you with background knowledge and step-by-step instructions. The case study and discussion is designed to take approximately 1 hour, leaving your 2-3 hours to explore the Zoo and apply student thinking in different contexts.
Understand
Use activities in the Teaching Guide to deepen students’ learning back at school.
Act
Use the Teaching Guide to enable students to master their knowledge and skills in real-world contexts.
